I have a number of '.cf' files which define the configuration for devices in different parts of the network. My config files are auto-generated, which occasionally results in commented entries being generated for some hosts, and then another un-commented entry further down in the same file for the same host. The man page states that any line that starts with a '#' symbol (minus the quotes) is treated as a comment, and ignored. However, I'm seeing evidence that its not being ignored at all, as I keep getting errors complaining about 'overridden' definitions: [Tue Mar 5 16:35:09 2019] conserver (3117): ERROR: console definition for `c118.sjc002.fill' overridden [/apps/nco-conserver/etc/config/fill.sjc002.cf:164] In /apps/nco-conserver/etc/config/fill.sjc002.cf this host has the following references (each on a separate line): # console c118.sjc002.fill { type ipmi; master 127.0.0.1; host 0; } console c118.sjc002.fill { type ipmi; master 127.0.0.1; host 2.80.130.185; } Am I misunderstanding how comments should work? thanks From bryan@conserver.com Tue Mar 5 19:35:56 2019 Return-Path: X-Original-To: conserver-users@localhost Delivered-To: conserver-users@localhost Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by ziggybow.stansell.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D4D9C41EA1; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 19:35:56 +0000 (UTC) X-Virus-Scanned: Debian amavisd-new at ziggybow.stansell.org Received: from ziggybow.stansell.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (ziggybow.stansell.org [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id cpy1hyF4r8jJ; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 19:35:56 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [192.168.18.198] (snat-main.ip3.pnap.mv1.23andme.net [64.74.136.178]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) (Authenticated sender: bryan@stansell.org) by ziggybow.stansell.org (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 2251F41EA0; Tue, 5 Mar 2019 19:35:56 +0000 (UTC) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/simple; d=conserver.com; s=s0001; t=1551814556; bh=oWiPV5vwaVLhbufYxDS5PGSOZGe87MN47zrp+QuyGEQ=; h=Subject:From:In-Reply-To:Date:Cc:References:To; b=ezgbKAkDvz3PKj8hog/HCPOH0ARQM5iJ6DnXZqef9RDJLQS4sRP1aXZpJN6EWdJry x6b5tAkEwCakS9LFNebYm5Er9lLZf4qtsD+zhG092YL+8vpa3wJk6fPBjndA3L4L1m BYYcApC1l3s7TIkDyVej1xbYOgNJRrR/FAJUwm3GqjuZJ9YcBEiAQEFMo8OOkGgGKW 2Xwr9h39SQ/T8kEVXvkDoyRlw48kaNOgFMHnrUjGIstHAd+1Ef2PV6s8ycuJ9ANuVj JzhdrBMllPyRyr5cIayKOdyVFcCAuohyfJxkCagqs9eQRZ6tH5v1CtBoVwsfMBwgnF smehgjVn0fxKg== Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Mime-Version: 1.0 (Mac OS X Mail 12.2 \(3445.102.3\)) Subject: Re: commented lines *not* being ignored in cf files From: Bryan Stansell In-Reply-To: Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2019 11:35:55 -0800 Cc: users@conserver.com Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Message-Id: References: To: Lonni J Friedman X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.3445.102.3) X-BeenThere: users@conserver.com X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.26 Precedence: list List-Id: Conserver Users List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 05 Mar 2019 19:35:56 -0000 The comments should work as you expect.
