python console module

I'm working on some python tools for interacting with the conserver,
and was hoping that a python module might exist for simplifying the
job.  The only thing that I came across while searching was this
13(!!) year old post:

However, the link in the post no longer works.  Does anyone know if
there's anything else out there for python?
